Minister Honors Mwani Qatar, QTerminals on Hamad Port performance

Doha – QatarMinister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti today honored Mwani Qatar and QTerminals in recognition of their teams’ distinct work that led to Hamad Port ranking in the top ten container ports worldwide in 2021 and 2022 on the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) developed by the World Bank Group and S&P Global Market Intelligence.Mwani Qatar’s CEO Capt. Abdulla Mohamed Al-Khanji and GCEO of QTerminals Mr. Neville Bissett received the appreciation certificates.Hamad Port in 2021 ranked the world’s third most efficient gateway in terms of container transportation and delivery to the administrative areas, and in 2022 ranked eighth in the CPPI’s administrative and statistical approaches in terms of the time a ship needed to spend at the port to complete loading and uploading. Hamad Port advanced from the 38th place worldwide in 2020.The CPPI is intended to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement that will ultimately benefit all stakeholders from shipping lines to national governments to consumers. The CPPI, which in its 2022 edition covers nearly 350 global ports, is based on total port hours per ship call, defined as the time spent between a ship’s arrival in a port and its departure from the berth having completed its cargo exchange. The achievement reflects Hamad Port’s efficient operations and modern infrastructure, facilities, and services. The ranking also shows that Hamad Port keeps moving forward firmly towards more powerful positions as one of the key ports in the Middle East and the region, targeting achieving a more efficient logistics services industry in Qatar and the transformation into a leading global trade hub, thus enhancing its economic diversification plans in step with the QNV2030.Hamad Port in 2022 received some 1569 ships, handled over 1.40 million TEUs, some 1.5 million tons of bulk cargo, nearly 45.8 thousand heads of livestock, and more than 72.5 thousand units of vehicles and equipment.

Ministry Wraps Up “Qatar Freight Master Plan” Workshop

Doha – Qatar The Ministry of Transport today held a workshop on the Qatar Freight Master Plan (QFMP), attended by representatives of several government entities and agencies concerned, as well as consultancy firms and strategic partners. The workshop presented the QFMP deliverables. The QFMP aims at addressing the unique requirements and impacts of freight transportation in Qatar, thus enhancing the country’s ranking as a regional hub for freight in step with the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030. “The QFMP aims at establishing an integrated, multimodal land freight system aiming to bolster Qatar's economic growth and competitiveness, as well as providing strategic land transportation solutions that are efficient and competitive, in addition to environmentally-sustainable and cost-effective solutions to give Qatar a distinct advantage in regional and global trade to connect companies, products, services and individuals,” said MOT’s Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Land Transport Affairs, Hamad Essa Abdullah. He added that the fruitful discussions and the sharing of ideas and expectations by strategic partners and stakeholders at the workshop will significantly support achieving the objectives of the plan. The QFMP incorporates the Road Freight Design Manual, which offers a set of guidelines for designing freight networks to meet land transportation future needs. The Manual also includes the best practices on designing an efficient, safe freight infrastructure. Over the course of developing the QFMP, MOT conducted numerous surveys and questionnaires to gather data on freight origins, paths, and destinations, in addition to quantitative and qualitative data on Qatari freight industry. Extensive data was collected through traffic counts on roads, traffic counts on junctions using cameras, measuring trip duration on existing roads, classifying the vehicles including all types of trucks, and conducting surveys and questionnaires with employers and staff of construction, logistics, heavy and light transportation and freight services companies.
