Qatar, Cyprus Sign MoU on Cooperation in Maritime Field

The State of Qatar and the Republic of Cyprus have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance their cooperation in maritime transportation fields.Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani and the Shipping Deputy Minister to the President of the Republic of Cyprus Ms. Marina Hadjimanolis signed the MoU on the sidelines of the Maritime Cyprus 2025 Conference.As per the MoU, the two countries will enhance their cooperation on meeting the requirements of international maritime carriage, the complete and efficient use of maritime fleet of both countries, ensuring safety and security at the sea, rising of level of protection of marine environment and the prevention of ship-source pollution, and cooperation on maritime transport, science, technologies and sharing the obtained experience.The MoU reflects the Ministry of Transport’s commitment to fostering international cooperation in maritime transportation and creating a marine environment that is safe and sustainable in step with the goals of the QNV 2030.Following the signing ceremony, the two officials discussed bilateral relations in the areas of transportation, and ways to enhance them, particularly regarding maritime navigation and ports.

Minister, Cyprian Counterpart Discuss Enhancing Ties

Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani met with Minister of Transport, Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus H.E. Alexis Vafeades, on the sidelines of the Maritime Cyprus 2025 Conference.The two ministers discussed bilateral relations in the areas of maritime transportation and ports, and ways to enhance and take them to new heights, particularly regarding using advanced technologies in the assisting logistics services. Topics on maritime navigation developments were also discussed.Qatar’s Ambassador to Cyprus H.E. Yousef Sultan Laram attended the meeting.

Minister Addresses Ministerial Dialog at Maritime Cyprus Conf.

Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani has attended the Ministerial Shipping Dialog held during the Maritime Cyprus 2025 Conference in Limassol.Addressing the meeting, attended by several Arab and foreign transportation and shipping ministers, H.E. the Minister highlighted the importance of maritime routes for global economy and said that any disarray in them reflects immediately on stability of markets and economic development, something which makes their security and sustainability a shared international responsibility.Highlighting Qatar’s ongoing efforts to develop its maritime industry, the minister said Hamad Port has become one of the most advanced ports in the region thanks to its advanced infrastructure and growing capacity. He also said that Qatar continues cementing its regional and international partnerships to ensure the flow of trade, safely and efficiently.Additionally, H.E. the Minister said that Qatar developed a national strategy for logistics services sector to transform the country into a leading global hub in transportation and supply chains through diversifying modes of transportation, developing the logistics zones and connecting them with sustainability goals in line with national development goals and the QNV 2030.

Minister Heads Qatar Delegation to Maritime Cyprus 2025 Conf.

A State of Qatar delegation led by Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani is participating in the Maritime Cyprus 2025 Conference.The event was inaugurated in Limassol by President of the Republic of Cyprus H.E. Mr. Nikos Christodoulides. In attendance were many Arab and foreign transportation and shipping ministers, chiefs of global organizations such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the EU, and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS). Multiple senior officials and decision makers from the maritime transportation industry from the around the world were also in the audience.Represented by the MOT, Qatar participates in this international event to emphasize its leading role in fostering global maritime cooperation and commitment to supporting the world efforts that aim at developing a sustainable global maritime transportation ecosystem. The MOT has several initiatives and projects focused on enhancing the national development in economic, environmental and human areas, in step with the goals of the Qatar NDS3, MOT Strategy 2025-2030, and QNV 2030.The “Maritime Cyprus” Conference is organized every two years by the Shipping Deputy Ministry in cooperation with the Cyprus Shipping Chamber and the Cyprus Union of Shipowners. Established in 1989, it has since grown into one of the world’s most significant and well-attended shipping conferences, attracting approximately 800 shipping executives from around the globe. Its main aim is to operate as a forum where important and current issues relevant to international shipping are presented by distinguished speakers and discussed by the international shipping community.Themed “Unlocking the Future of Shipping”, this year’s program addresses both the challenges and opportunities facing the maritime industry. Key topics include the regulatory developments, the energy transition, digitalization, financing strategies, environmental sustainability, and crew welfare.

Qatar’s ICAO Mission Holds Reception for Delegates

Sponsored and attended by Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani, Qatar’s Permanent Mission to the International Civil Aviation Organization has held a reception for the delegations of ICAO’s Member States, on the sidelines of the 42nd Session of the ICAO Assembly.The ICAO Council President H.E. Salvatore Sciacchitano, ICAO Secretary General H.E. Juan Carlos Salazar, several ministers, heads and representatives of Member States’ delegations, and several accredited ambassadors in Canada, were also in attendance.In his remarks, H.E. the Minister welcomed the attendees, and thanked the ICAO for its efforts for developing air navigation and transportation, stressing Qatar's firm commitment to supporting the ICAO’s mission and objectives to ensure aviation’s safety and security, and promote the sustainable growth of this vital industry globally.Wrapping up the event, Mr. Mohamed Faleh Al-Hajri, in charge of managing the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, appreciated ICAO’s Council President and Secretary General.

Qatar Reelected Member of ICAO Council for 2026-2028 Term

The State of Qatar was successfully reelected member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council in Category C for the second time in a row for the next three-year term (2026-2028), in the elections that took place today at the 42nd Session of the ICAO Assembly in Montreal, Canada, attended by delegations of 193 Member States.Qatar secured 170 votes and topped the countries of Category C, which clearly emphasizes its valuable contribution and distinctive efforts in civil aviation industry.The win also embodies a renewed international trust in the State of Qatar and reaffirms its strong commitment to actively contributing to shaping world civil aviation policies. Additionally, the reelection reflects Qatar’s leading role in fostering international cooperation and innovation in the industry to further develop its infrastructures, raise its efficiency, and ensure a universally safe and reliable civil aviation ecosystem.“We are proud of this achievement. It reflects the international community’s trust in the State of Qatar’s journey of boosting its position in civil aviation industry. Reelecting Qatar member of the ICAO Council for the second time emphasizes Qatar’s firm commitment to actively contributing to developing policies and standards that ensure highest safety and efficiency levels in air transportation,” said Minister of Transport H.E.
