Ministry of Transport and Communications leads Qatar’s drive to improving safety across the transportation network Transportation experts arrived in Doha this week for a high-level meeting to discuss the state of safety across the transport network in the region at the Qatar Transport Safety Forum, held under the patronage of H.E. Mr. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communications, and in attendance of H.E. Mr. Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Rumehi, Minister of Municipality and Environment.The event brought together a number of experts from the region as well as the international community to share their experiences and transfer knowledge about best practice across a number of modes of transport. The conference opened with a video that showed the projects of the ministry, followed by a speech by Mr. Rashid Taleb Al Nabet, Director of the Ministry’s Road Transport Planning Department.The speech focused on the importance the Ministry is putting on safety as Qatar prepares itself for the delivery of new modes of transport.The gathering was also addressed by Brigadier Mohamed Al Malki, General Secretary, National Traffic Safety Committee, Ministry of Interior, who gave an in-depth assessment of Qatar’s vision for improving safety on the roads in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.H.E. Minister Al-Sulaiti then inaugurated the exhibition and led the attendees on a tour where safety equipment and technology suppliers from all over the world demonstrated cutting-edge systems that will be implemented in Qatar as part of their far-reaching strategy to make the country’s transport network one of the safest in the region.After the break, the forum hosted a number of international speakers including Susanna Zammataro the Executive Director of the International Roads Federation Programme Centre Geneva, and Jonas Hermanson, Managing Director of Sweroad, who shared how Sweden has managed to become the country with the safest roads on the planet. The rest of the day saw a number of technical theatres from local and international solution providers as well as a mix of workshops, panel discussions and presentations from organisations such as Abu Dhabi Police, Ashghal, Saudi Aramco, ASTAD Project Management and Qatar Rail. Paul Stanley Williams from Qatar Rail safety department gave an insight into their initiatives in improving work zone safety which has culminated in them receiving the Gold RoSPA award for the QR Light Rail Project.The first day came to a close in the evening but not before the Transport Safety Awards ceremony where individuals and companies were awarded for their endeavors in improving safety in the region. Organizations such as Toyota, Continental Tires, Tekfen, Hamad Medical Corporation and Saudi Aramco were bestowed honours for their efforts and the highlight of the evening was H.E. Mr. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti accepting an award for leadership in transport safety in light of the efforts that have been made in Qatar since the foundation of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Today’s forum is set to continue with more high-level discussions and will focus on what Qatar is doing now with regards improving the quality of the drivers on their public transport network as well as looking at the future in the Middle East with the implementation of intelligent transport systems and the buzzword in the transport industry at the moment, autonomous vehicles. ‘We would really like to thank the Ministry of Transport and Communications for their constant support in the lead up to this event and I would personally like to thank H.E. Mr. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti for his personal attention to this conference,’ stated Mohaned El-Mahgoub, Conference Director from IQPC Middle East. ‘Safety is something that needs to be driven from the top and with his vision and direction, I only see huge improvements in Qatar.’

Four Ministers Listen to Families of Autistic ChildrenHE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti said Qatar pays a great attention to people of disabilities and works on fulfilling their needs by providing all the services. The aim is not only to integrate them into the society but also discover and benefit from their capabilities.This came at the closing session of the Second National Autism Forum held on October 9-11 at Hilton Doha under the slogan “Challenges and Achievements.” The forum was organized by the Qatar Assistive Technology Center (Mada) for the Qatar Autism Families Association.HE Minister Al Sulaiti said the forum being attended by four ministers is the clearest proof the State of Qatar is paying a great attention to the disabled.In addition to HE Minister Al Sulaiti, the closing session was attended by Ministers Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari of Public Health and Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Al-Hammadi of Education and Higher Education, as well as the representative of HE Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser Al Ali.

HE the Minister Meets with Hungarian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs

HE Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communications, met here Monday with HE Dr. Pana Petra, the Minister of State at the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in the field of transportation, air transport and communications, and means of further enhancing them.​Following the meeting, HE Minister of Transport and Communications and the Hungarian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs witnessed the final signing ceremony of the Air Service Agreement to open the airspace between the two countries, allowing the operation of any number of passenger and cargo flights with full transport rights. The Agreement enables national carriers to exercise the fifth freedom of the air, allowing  airlines to carry passengers and cargo to another country, and from there to points beyond.  The agreement was signed by HE Abdullah bin Nasser Turki Al-Subaey, Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority, and HE Dr. István Elter, the Hungarian Ambassador in Qatar.The Agreement comes as part of ongoing efforts from Ministry of Transport  and Communications and the Civil Aviation Authority to hold more talks with other countries aiming to connect the State of Qatar with more air service agreements, opening the gateway to the national carriers to fly to more destinations around the world. The Agreement takes Qatar’s air transport agreements with world countries to nearly 160.

Three-day “Second National Autism Forum” Opens

In attendance of HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti and HE Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs Dr. Issa bin Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi, “The Second National Autism Forum” opened today, October 9 and will continue for three days.The Forum is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Qatar Assistive Technology Center (Mada) organized the event for the Qatar Autism Families Association under the theme “Challenges & Achievements.”Held at Hilton Doha, the forum brings together local and global educators, researchers and specialists working in the field of autism.Ms. Maha Al Mansoori, CEO of Mada, and Ms. Fatima Al Sulaiti, Chair of Qatar Autism Families Association, are among senior attendees.The three-day awareness-raising event tackles key topics related to autism spectrum disorder, autism definitions, diagnosis and characteristics, as well as some of the facts and common misconceptions.The forum features educators, researchers and specialists who will share their insight from scientific and educational standpoints. Genetics of autism, family lives, strategies and approaches, practical information and tips on challenging autism behaviors, fundamental parenting tools for positive behaviors and tips to develop autistic children’s communication skills, are among the forum’s interesting topics.Autism is a lifelong, developmental disorder that affects the way a person communicates with and relates to people around, and the way they experience the world around them.Noteworthy, Mada’s first autism  forum, a two-day “Autism Parents’ Network Forum” was held in April 2014, themed “Comprehensive Care for Autism  Families.”

Transport and Communications Minister Opens Second National Autism Forum

In a speech at the opening of the Second National Autism Forum under the theme "Challenges & Achievements", HE the Minister of Transport and Communications stressed the importance of collective efforts by all parties concerned with the persons with disabilities to develop their skills and help them become a key component of the society.    The speech read as follows: "Dear Excellences,Distinguished Attendees,Ladies and Gentlemen, It is my pleasure to welcome you all today to the second National Autism Forum, a major event in addressing autism, and the importance of combining the efforts of multiple entities to develop the skills of people with autism and to discuss how they can be enabled to fully participate in society.Qatar, under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, is sparing no effort in supporting and promoting initiatives and efforts that raise awareness about the rights of people with disabilities, including children with autism. Ladies and Gentlemen,The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) has a number of programs and initiatives that support the various segments of society in the State of Qatar. MOTC supports people with disabilities and their families through the Qatar Assistive Technology Center (MADA), which exerts commendable efforts to support this important sector, not only in order to fully integrate people with disabilities into society, but also to explore and develop their skills and use them to serve our country in line with the aspirations of the Qatar National Vision 2030.There is no doubt that people with autism are an important part of our society, enjoying high intelligence and possessing significant innovative skills. The Ministry’s support to them is a societal duty.The Ministry also recognizes the importance of forums and events such as this one to discuss best practices and ways to improve the care and services provided to people with disabilities and their families, through unifying efforts at the national level between government and semi-government entities, along with other organizations and institutions.To conclude, I would like to thank His Excellency Dr. Issa bin Saad Al-Naimi, Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs, for his support of Qatar Autism Families Association, and I hope that this forum will deliver recommendations and proposals that we can build on to support this segment of society and achieve benefit for all.I wish you all a successful event."
