Minister Meets with Finland, Sierra Leone, Liberia Officials at IMO Assembly

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti held separate meetings in London with Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Finland H.E. Lulu Ranne, Minister of Transport and Aviation of the Republic of Sierra Leone H.E. Kabineh Moinama Kallon, and the Commissioner and CEO of the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) H.E. Lenn Eugene Nagbe, on the sidelines of his participation in the 33rd Session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly, which opened in London, today.The three meetings discussed Qatar’s bilateral relations with the three countries in the areas of transportation, mobility, maritime navigation services, and ports, and ways to further enhance them. They also discussed the latest developments relating to maritime navigation safety and security, as well as protecting the marine environment.In attendance was Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the UK and the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the IMO, H.E. Fahd bin Mohammed Al Attiyah.

Minister Meets with Greek Maritime Affairs Minister

The Qatar-Greece cooperation relations in the areas of maritime transportation, ports, maritime navigation services and ways to further develop them were discussed as Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met in London with Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy of the Hellenic Republic H.E. Christos Stylianides, on the sidelines of their participation in the 33rd Session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly, which opened in London today.They also discussed the latest developments relating to maritime navigation safety and security and protecting the marine environment.

Minister Heads Qatar Delegation to 33rd IMO Assembly

The State of Qatar participated in the opening session of the 33rd International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly, which began in London today.The delegation was headed by Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti. Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the UK H.E. Fahd bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, who is also the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the IMO, attended the session.The 33rd Session of the IMO Assembly will discuss several topics on maritime safety and security and marine environment protection. Also, a new IMO Council will be elected.

HBKU Signs MoU with ICAO on Enhancing Collaboration on Innovation in Aviation

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti today attended the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between Hamad Bin Khalifa University and the International Civil Aviation Organization, which aims to enhance collaboration on innovation and developing the civil aviation ecosystem.  The MoU was signed by HBKU President Dr. Ahmed M. Hasnah and President of the ICAO Council H.E. Salvatore Sciacchitano.The MoU aims to establish a framework of collaboration for the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices on innovation in pursuance of the strategic objectives of both the ICAO and HBKU. It also aims to contribute to strengthening the aviation ecosystem through research and capacity building. Further opportunities for cooperation and joint initiatives include the development of studies, events, and training.As per the MoU, the two Parties will endeavor to collaborate on topics related to innovation in aviation in areas such as the environment, climate science, sustainable navigation technologies, aviation security, cybersecurity, drones and unmanned aircraft systems, crises and outbreaks, sustainable tourism, air connectivity and promoting the sector’s contribution to economic development, integrated intermodal transport systems and smart travel, and workforce planning.On this occasion, H.E. Al-Sulaiti stressed the importance of this MoU for the exchange of knowledge and expertise, innovation, and studies, research, and training, thereby supporting capacity building and manpower development in line with the goals of the QNV 2030.The Ministry of Transport, he said, always encourages broader collaboration and integration between our national educational institutions and UN bodies concerned with transportation and civil aviation with a view to matching their output with national efforts to develop these two sectors. This will raise their competitiveness in terms of research and academic studies, in addition to upskilling their manpower, he noted.The Minister thanked both HBKU and the ICAO for their efforts to sign this MoU, which, he said, would serve civil aviation activities and support the issues of environment and sustainability, in addition to supporting ICAO’s “No Country Left Behind” (NCLB) initiative, and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.Commenting on the MoU, Dr. Hasnah said: “Our collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) will undoubtedly enhance and support research, development, and innovation in this field. In support of this, we will craft specialized research activities and deliver training workshops directly informed by HBKU’s distinguished record of research in various sectors, including aviation and cybersecurity. Besides building on the diversity of partnerships we already have with national and international institutions, our collaboration with the ICAO also aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030’s commitment to cultivating skilled professionals across diverse sectors.”Qatar is an active member of the ICAO Council and passionate supporter of its strategic goals, particularly the resolutions focused on innovation, which align with the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Minister Meets with ICAO Council President

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council President H.E. Salvatore Sciacchitano.The meeting was held in the Ministry’s offices today. The two officials discussed ways of enhancing Qatar-ICAO relations in civil aviation and contributing to environment protection, as well as research and development on reducing carbon emissions.The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohammed Faleh Al-Hajri, in charge of managing the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, and Eng. Mohamed Abu Baker Farea, Regional Director, Middle East Office, ICAO.

Minister Meets with Lebanese Caretaker Minister of Economy

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met here today with the Caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade of the Republic of Lebanon H.E. Amin Salam, who is visiting the country.The two ministers discussed bilateral relations in the fields of transportation, and ways to enhance the economic partnership in these fields and take it to higher heights.
