Qatar Reelected Member of ICAO Council for 2026-2028 Term

The State of Qatar was successfully reelected member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council in Category C for the second time in a row for the next three-year term (2026-2028), in the elections that took place today at the 42nd Session of the ICAO Assembly in Montreal, Canada, attended by delegations of 193 Member States.Qatar secured 170 votes and topped the countries of Category C, which clearly emphasizes its valuable contribution and distinctive efforts in civil aviation industry.The win also embodies a renewed international trust in the State of Qatar and reaffirms its strong commitment to actively contributing to shaping world civil aviation policies. Additionally, the reelection reflects Qatar’s leading role in fostering international cooperation and innovation in the industry to further develop its infrastructures, raise its efficiency, and ensure a universally safe and reliable civil aviation ecosystem.“We are proud of this achievement. It reflects the international community’s trust in the State of Qatar’s journey of boosting its position in civil aviation industry. Reelecting Qatar member of the ICAO Council for the second time emphasizes Qatar’s firm commitment to actively contributing to developing policies and standards that ensure highest safety and efficiency levels in air transportation,” said Minister of Transport H.E. This achievement, he added, underscores Qatar’s pivotal role in advancing the global aviation industry through strategic initiatives that have enhanced infrastructure and strengthened capacity to support sustainable growth.Qatar has been significantly developing its civil aviation industry with world-class infrastructures that ensure sustainable development and meet environmental standards. It also provided several countries with training and skillsets that are necessary for their workforce to fulfill the ICAO-recommended practices and standards, aiming to enhance civil aviation’s safety in those countries. MOT Takes Part in Global Rail 2025 in Abu Dhabi

The Ministry of Transport is taking part in the 2nd edition of the Global Rail Transport Infrastructure Exhibition & Conference, which opened in Abu Dhabi today.Multiple transportation and infrastructure government and private organizations, experts and specialists are participating in Global Rail 2025, which runs through Oct. 2.An MOT booth at the event is featuring mockups and visual presentations on Qatari public transportation and railways projects, as well as land transportation plans and strategies, including ITSs, environmental sustainability solutions, and the full electrification of public bus fleet to 100% by 2030.MOT booth visitors can also experience steering the Lusail Tram and virtually walking inside Doha Metro stations and trains with the VR technology provided by Qatar Rail team at the booth.Several Arab and GCC ministers have visited MOT booth, which also saw a large turnout from several officials, experts, and general visitors, who were impressed by the Qatari sustainable public transit model and the outstanding achievements in terms of smart infrastructure and projects.MOT continues its focus on creating a fully integrated, smart and sustainable transportation system to contribute to achieving the goals of the Qatar NDS3, MOT Strategy 2025-2030, and QNV 2030.

Minister Meets with Egypt Civil Aviation Minister

Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani met in Montreal with Minister of Civil Aviation of the Arab Republic of Egypt H.E. Dr. Sameh El-Hefny, on the sidelines of Qatar’s participation in the 42nd Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).The two ministers discussed bilateral cooperation in the areas of civil aviation and ways to further develop it, particularly regarding air transportation related activities.

MOT Celebrates World Maritime Day 2025

The Ministry of Transport today celebrated the World Maritime Day, which is observed on September 25 annually.The MOT organized a kayaking and paddleboarding competition for employees of maritime industry in Qatar, aiming at highlighting the importance of that vital industry and role in sustainable development and marine environment protection.Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Doha Marine Sports Club, and QTerminals Group, the competition was a unique occasion to raising awareness of marine environment protection and how maritime navigation connects nations around the world and enhances trade and economic ties.MOT Assistant Undersecretary for Maritime Affairs Abdulaziz Al-Sulaiti, who appreciated the competition winners, said that marking the World Maritime Day with sporting and recreational activities reflects Qatar’s commitment to supporting the efforts of protecting seas and oceans, and fostering the sustainability of the industry, consistent with MOT’s endeavors to achieve the goals of the Qatar NDS3, MOT Strategy 2025-2030, and, ultimately, QNV 2030.The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is the UN specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. It celebrates the World Maritime Day every year. This year’s theme is “Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity”, reflecting the ocean’s vital role in the world economy. The ocean is a source of jobs and food for millions of people.

MOT Wraps Up Final Workshop on QBMP

A Ministry of Transport’s workshop on updating the Qatar Bicycle Master Plan (QBMP) has concluded.It is the third and final in a series of consultative workshops largely attended by concerned government and private entities, experts, and transportation and urban planning specialists.The MOT has been following a collaborative approach since the project's inception, aiming to develop a safe and integrated infrastructure network for bicycles and micromobility devices in step with urban expansion and growing needs of the population.The project also furthers the goals of the 3rd Qatar National Development Strategy (NDS3) and MOT Strategy 2025-2030, fostering the efficiency of public services and improving the quality of life.Today’s workshop focused on QBMP’s development journey, final schemes, implementation program, and bike infrastructure planning and design guide. The implementation program defines implementation priorities in various areas countrywide and relevant authorities’ responsibilities. The guide helps ensure that bicycle networks and facilities and micromobility devices are integrated with the overall transportation system.The MOT is committed to working closely with stakeholders and partners from all industries to ensure integrated efforts for best national outcomes in line with the national orientation toward more efficient and sustainable transportation systems, thereby solidifying Qatar’s profile as a trailblazing hub in adopting sustainable transit solutions.
