Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani met with Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy of the Hellenic Republic H.E. Vasilis Kikilias, on the sidelines of the 34th Session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly, in London.The two ministers discussed Qatar-Greece cooperation relations in the areas of transportation, maritime transportation, and ports, as well as ways to further enhance them.H.E. Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the UK, Ireland, and Iceland, and Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the IMO, attended the meeting.

Heidi Alexander, on the sidelines of the 34th Session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly, in London.Cooperation relations between the two friendly countries in transportation and the industry services and activities, and ways to enhance them, were discussed, in addition to latest global developments in terms of enhancing maritime safety, protecting the marine environment, and facilitating global maritime navigation.H.E. Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani has headed the State of Qatar’s delegation to the 34th Session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly, which meets in London.The Assembly is the highest Governing Body of the IMO, consisting of all Member States. The Assembly is meeting through December 3 for its 34th regular session, to set the Organization’s strategic direction, elect new Council, and approve work program.Addressing the 34th Session, H.E. the minister lauded the crucial role of the IMO in shaping the future of global maritime transportation, enhancing the safety and security of global maritime navigation, and protecting the marine environment.He said that Qatar is strategically prioritizing its maritime industry within its overall national transportation ecosystem, in step with the goals and agenda of the IMO.The minister also highlighted Qatar’s pragmatic steps with respect to reducing GHG emissions, enhancing ports’ efficiency, and developing its national legislations in line with best international standards for safety of life at sea, marine environment protection, and the safety of navigation and seafarers’ rights.H.E. the minister cited significant progress in Qatar in qualifying and upskilling more national cadets in maritime industry; the most recent was the inauguration of a brand-new Maritime Training and Simulation Center at the University of Doha for Science and Technology. He said that the Center is equipped with cutting-edge world technologies to serve as a leading platform to prepare Qatari professionals to the best universal standards.Protecting the marine environment, he said, has always been a cornerstone of Qatar’s national policies with a firm belief that seas are not just trade corridors, but natural and human legacy that ought to be protected for the coming generations.In this regard, the minister said, Qatar had developed a national action plan to preserve marine resources and established a multidisciplinary committee focused on enhancing the long-term planning and management of marine resources, in line with the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).With that commitment front and center, he said, Qatar is looking forward to cementing its close cooperation with all Member States and the IMO for a safer, eco-friendlier, and more substantiable maritime future.H.E. Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the UK, Ireland, and Iceland, and Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the IMO, attended the Session.The IMO is the UN specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani today attended the opening ceremony of the 19th edition of the Dubai Airshow 2025, which opened at the Dubai World Central in Al Maktoum International Airport, sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.Several ministers and high-profile officials from Arab and friendly countries were in attendance. Some 1500 companies specialized in aviation, space and defense from more than 150 countries are taking part in this year’s edition, including over 440 new exhibitors, about 120 emerging companies, 50 investors, and 350 speakers.More than 200 aircraft are also on display at the show.

Minister Witnesses Trial of First Flight with Unmanned eVTOL in Qatar

Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani has sponsored and witnessed the successful trial of the first-ever urban flight with unmanned eVTOL in Qatar in a step that reflects the country’s pioneering vision of adopting smart and sustainable mobility solutions.The air taxi demonstration flight comes within a series of tests, supervised by the Ministry of Transport, on the technical aspects and future applicability of such technologies.The trial air taxi flight was conducted between the Old Doha Port and the Katara Cultural Village. It was successfully conducted without any direct human interference using a full self-control system enabled by AI and advanced air navigation technologies. This shows the system is capable of using the airspace optimally in a safe operational environment.The MOT will continue assessing the test results and lay down the regulatory and technical frameworks needed for approving and operating that type of mobility in line with best international standards and in a way that enhances Qatar’s position as a leading global hub in adopting smart and sustainable technologies.The pilotless air taxi project will be carried out in several consecutive phases, considering all relevant technical, operational, and regulatory requirements, including infrastructure readiness, approving of operational systems, and meeting all safety, security and quality standards to ensure the new mobility system can be safely and effectively integrated into the nation’s mobility network.H.E. the Minister described the trial operation as a new milestone in the State of Qatar’s journey of adopting smart and sustainable mobility solutions and constitutes an advanced step forward toward a future enabled by innovation and environment-friendly technologies, something that emphasizes MOT’s commitment to enhancing Qatar’s regional and international pioneering position in modern transportation and supporting national efforts to reduce carbon emissions and improve the quality of life.This initiative, he said, is a true translation of the MOT Strategy 2025-2030 that aims at creating a smart, resilient transportation system where sustainability, innovation, and integration between various transportation modes are front and center, thereby boosting the efficiency of the country’s transportation system and advancing the goals of the NDS3 and QNV 2030.He added that the MOT will continue its endeavors to enhance Qatar’s global profile in deploying smart and emerging technologies in transportation, in partnership with leading global companies, to develop an integrated infrastructure that is capable of accommodating advanced transportation modes in the coming years.The trail operation today is part of MOT’s initiatives for developing Qatar’s public transportation system through using unmanned eVTOL aircraft as a safe, fast and ecofriendly urban mobility option that contributes to reducing traffic congestion, and providing smart mobility choices for citizens, residents and visitors, something that says leadership is achieved when technology meets governance.

Minister Heads Qatar Delegation to Council of Arab Ministers of Transport 38th Session

The State of Qatar today participated in the 38th Session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Transport, in Cairo. The Qatari delegation was headed by Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani.The meeting discussed several topics on the areas of pan-Arab ground, maritime, air, and multimodal transportation, including regulating the road transportation of passengers and goods between and across Arab countries, creating a comprehensive Arab e-platform for road, rail, maritime and multimodal transportation, and unifying HAZMAT transportation protocols.The meeting also discussed a study on approving the components of smart and sustainable transportation as a reference for developing transportation strategies, in addition to developing and sharing information on transportation, warehousing and logistics transportation strategies, promoting the use of clean energy in ground transportation, exchanging lessons learnt and expertise, and assessing the efficiency of goods and passenger transportation across the member states.
