Minister Holds Talks with ICAO Secretary General

Doha – QatarHE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met with the Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Dr. Fang Liu, at the Ministry offices today.The meeting discussed Qatar’s nomination for the ICAO Council and latest developments regarding civil aviation. The two officials also discussed means of enhancing cooperation between Qatar and ICAO.At the meeting, HE the Minister appreciated the role ICAO plays in preserving air safety and security.The meeting was attended by Chairman of Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) HE Mr. Abdulla bin Nasser Turki Al Subaey.

Global Aviation Training symposium begins

Doha - QatarThe 5th Global Aviation Training & TrainAir Plus Symposium kicked off yesterday in a ceremony at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC). The symposium, a three-day event is being held for the first time in Qatar and the Middle East, hosted by Qatar Aeronautical College in collaboration with ICAO and support from Ministry of Transport and Communication.The opening ceremony was followed by the TrainAir Membership awarding in the presence of Minister of Transport and Communications H E Jassim bin Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Fang Liu, and Director General of Qatar Aeronautical College, Jabor bin Hamad Al Thani.The ceremony awarded new associate members as well as new full members, and new corporate partners from a host of countries that included Algeria, Oman, China among others.The opening ceremony was attended by over 800 participants representing Members of the TrainAir Plus Programme, industry stakeholders and academic institutions with the aim of providing them with a forum to learn about new programme features and benefits,.This event provides a forum where ICAO Member States and training organizations come together to forge new partnership opportunities in aviation training, and at the same time increase their awareness of key near- and long-term capacity-building priorities for global air transport .As part of its efforts to develop its offering through partnerships and agreements with its global peers, Qatar Aeronautical College signed during the opening ceremony a partnership agreement with French National Civial Aviation Collge (ENAC), to offer Advanced Masters in Aviation Safety Management to students and aviation professionals in QAC.The ceremony was followed by the first session of the Symposium entitled: Building Aviation Training Intelligence, which was moderated by the Civil Aviation Training Magazine European Affairs Editor Chris Long.The session focused on building aviation training intelligence methods through identifying and integrating decision useful information, establishing operational plans and training portfolios and meeting aviation growth projections with qualified personnel, all in support of State implementation of standards and recommended practices.After a networking lunch break, the Symposium continued with the second session of the day entitled: Enhancing the TrainAir Plus Network through Aviation Training Intelligence.

Ministry Holds Workshop on PSP Strategy

Doha - QatarThe event hosted representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Qatar Chamber, QNB and the Qatari Businessmen Association.Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalid Al Thani, Director of Technical Affairs, MOTC, said the strategy reflects the vision of the wise leadership of Qatar in supporting the private sector to make it a cornerstone and key pillar in the national economy by engaging it in development projects countrywide.The workshop aimed at highlighting MOTC’s ongoing efforts and providing more explanation about the strategy and its objectives. It was also an occasion to pitch the strategy to more bodies concerned and stakeholders.Sheikh Al Thani said that the time is now to expand private sector’s participation to include all qualified governmental projects, particularly in mobility and transportation.

MOTC Participates in MSC Meeting In London

London- The Ministry of Transport and Communications participated in the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) meeting being held today at the International Maritime Organization (IMO)’s headquarters in London.The meeting, which will end on December 7 will discuss matters related to maritime safety, including the technical specification for cargo ships and oil tankers to achieve maritime safety and the reduction of sulfur proportion emitted from ships as well as the global updates in maritime safety matters.

Doha-HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met here today with the Minister of State for Trade Policy at the UK’s Department for International Trade Mr. George Hollingbery MP.The two ministers discussed aspects of cooperation between Qatar and the United Kingdom in the fields of transport services, ports and communications, and means of further enhancing them. They also discussed potential investment opportunities in these fields, in addition to a number of matters of common interest between the two friendly countries.
