Minister attends Cybersecurity Drill ‘Star 6’

Doha-HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed al-Sulaiti has attended the annual Cyber Security Drill in Doha.  Organized by the National Center for Information Security (Q-CERT), a part of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the 4-day event invites government and private institutions to participate in practical exercises in how to combat cyber-attacks and to raise awareness and readiness.Under the title ‘Defending the Nation – Securing Major Events’ the exercise focuses specifically on cyber security surrounding large sporting events, primarily the FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar in 2022. More than 800 participants are attending this year’s event, Star 6, the largest since its launch in 2013.Representatives from 95 institutions involved in 11 different sectors, including energy, finance, transport, health, education, sports, telecommunications, hospitality, and media, have this year been joined by attendees from Britain, France, the US and Kuwait. Speaking at the event, the Minister said; “Cybersecurity drills aim to achieve the objectives of our national strategy in developing and refining national cybersecurity capabilities by creating and maintaining a professional workforce in this field, enhancing readiness and response to electronic incidents and attacks, solving them and recovering from them through co-operation and information exchange in a timely manner.”The Minister also explained that the drill deals with the lessons learned from the last World Cup hosted by Russia, where cyber-attacks during the hosting of the tournament were reviewed and analyzed, adding that different scenarios were built in to the drill to give participants practical experience in combating various types of attack.

Kuwait,HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti led Qatar’s delegation to the 21st GCC Transport and Communications Ministers Meeting being held in Kuwait today.The meeting discussed a number of important topics, including the GCC railway project, the memorandum of understanding on the joint data center for ship tracking systems and the latest updates of the unified guide for traffic control devices.The ministers drafted recommendations to implement GCC Supreme Council decisions in respect of the working mechanism to implement studies and strategic projects in the transport sector,which will deepen economic integration among the GCC States.

HE Minister Meets with IMO Secretary-General

London – UKHE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti held talks with the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Mr. Kitack Lim, at IMO’s premises in London today.During the meeting, the Minister submitted to IMO’s Secretary General Qatar’s candidature file to the membership of the Organization executive council under category "C".The meeting discussed bilateral relations between Qatar and IMO in the field of marine transport and means of further developing them.The meeting was attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to the UK HE Mr. Yousef bin Ali Al Khater.In a related context, HE the Minister headed Qatar’s delegation to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council meetings, which started yesterday in London to discuss the executive activities and policies of the Organization as well as financial matters.

MOTC Conducts Field Survey Program To Update Qatar's Comprehensive Transportation Plan

Doha-The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) is carrying out a Field Survey Program that started in Year 2017 and will continue until the end of year 2019, throughout the country to update the Transport Masterplan of Qatar (TMPQ).In the coming period, the Ministry will start collecting data through roadside interviews. The Ministry, in cooperation with the Traffic Department of MOI, are installing roadside stations to facilitate conducting surveys with road commuters.In addition, the MOTC is still conducting a range of questionnaires and surveys on members of the public, including households, parking users, public transport passengers, pedestrians and cyclists, airport passengers, hotel guests and traffic counts to understand the travel behavior of the people of Qatar and their ‘activity-based travel trips’ over a period of time. Questions will include the timing and locations of activities, transport mode, and whether people were able to perform any activity at home or not.Accordingly, the Ministry invites all citizens and residents to cooperate with the staff and interviewers of the consulting company assigned by the Ministry to conduct the surveys, and participate in its countrywide field survey program. Data obtained from the surveys will assist MOTC in further development and update of the TMPQ, taking into the people of Qatar’s aspirations in the development and modernization of land transport plans.It is worth noting that strict privacy provisions will apply. All information, whether related to personal identity or travel and activities, will remain confidential and will only be used for the purpose of the survey. The information will not be published, sold, distributed, or otherwise made available to any third party.

Doha, QatarUnder the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency Jassim Saif Ahmed al-Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communications and Chairman of QTerminals, QTerminals has held an event to celebrate reaching the major milestones of handling two million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) and five million tonnes of general cargo up to the end of October 2018, up three times versus June 2017. This remarkable feat was achieved in record time with operations at Hamad Port only starting as recently as October 2016. A number of stakeholders and representatives from shipping lines, freight forwarders, and the wider maritime industry attended the event.Addressing the gathering, HE the Minister stated; “This achievement would not have been possible without the vision of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the unwavering support of His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
