Qatar is taking part in the session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Subcommittee on Navigation, Communications, and Search and Rescue (NCSR) in London. Qatar is represented by a delegation from a number of entities, including from MOTC.
The session, which continues until Jan. 24, discusses topics relating to navigation and communications such as routeing measures and ship reporting systems. It also discusses carriage requirements, guidelines for the harmonized display of navigation information received via communications equipment, LRIT and electronic navigation enhancements.
The session also mulls over matters related to the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) such as recognizing GMDSS service providers.
The joint working groups at the session will submit their reports on maritime radiocommunication matters to the NCSR, the ICAO/IMO Joint Working Group on Harmonization of Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue (ICAO/IMO JWG-SAR) and the Joint IMO/ITU Experts Group on Maritime Radiocommunication Matters.
