The State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Iran have signed a bilateral agreement for operational processes to connect the Doha Flight Information Region (Doha FIR) with Tehran FIR. They also signed an agreement to increase the number of flights between the two countries. Establishing a Doha FIR has begun based on a recent decision by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Transport HE Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti and Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development HE Rostam Ghasemi.
The two agreements were signed by Mr. Mohamed Faleh Alhajri, who is in charge of managing the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and HE Mohammad Mohammadi-Bakhsh, Head of Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) of Iran.
Qatar’s Ambassador to Iran HE Mr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Hajri, Director of Asian Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Yousef Sultan Larem, and several senior transportation officials from both countries were also in attendance.
The two ministers attended a series of meetings on reinforcing cooperation in transportation industry.
At maritime transportation level, all matters relating to activating the Qatar-Iran maritime transportation and port management MoUs were discussed, as well as all matters regarding removing all obstructions to help further boost and facilitate transportation and trade between harbors of the two countries. Investment opportunities in ports sector were also covered.
Meetings were also attended by HE Ambassador Al-Hajri, HE Mr. Larem, and several senior transportation officials from both countries.
