MOTC Holds Qatar Digital Government Forum

The Ministry of Transport and Communication (MOTC) held Monday Qatar Digital Government Forum 2017, with representatives of government authorities and the private sector attending. Qatar's e-government steering committee was also participated.

The forum highlighted the status of Qatar Digital Government strategy 2020, and also included presentations on the progress made in the implementation of e-government projects.

Assistant Undersecretary of Government Information Technology Sector Hassan Jassim al Sayed said that since its creation in 2013 the steering committee has been encouraging all government authorities to implement their digital plans. Thanks to these efforts, the number of digital services offered by the government increased to 1660 by the end of the first quarter of 2017. A total of 1079 of them were offered online and 581 others offered on mobile. The total number of digital transactions increased from six million in 2014, to 128 million by the end of March 2017. Qatar aims to raise the total number of digital services to 2000 by the end of this year, with 1300 services online and 700 more on mobile.

Participants presented the digital government strategies of their respective ministries and their implementation status. Participants also discussed the role of the e-government steering committee, chaired by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and its main goals as well as how to deal with any challenges facing the implementation of its strategy.

They also provided statistics on their websites, their users, and their followers on social media. Participants also discussed their efforts in facilitating their services, whether digitally or through service centers that are available across the country. They stressed that participating in the forum was an opportunity to constantly develop the service and ensure its safety.

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani launched Qatar e-Government 2020 strategy in May 2014. It involves a comprehensive system to complete the digital transformation of the government through establishing digital infrastructure and government applications.
