An MOT delegation has attended the 20th Meeting of Committee on Riyadh MoU on Port State Control; an agreement to achieve safe, secure and efficient shipping in the maritime jurisdictions in the Gulf region, as per the provisions of global maritime conventions of the IMO.
The delegation included Asst. Undersecretary, Maritime Transport Affairs, Dr. Saleh bin Fetais Al-Marri, and several maritime transportation officials from MOT.
Held in Muscat, the meeting discussed the MoU’s strategic plan for the next 5 years, and updating the committee’s financial and administrative approach by setting out the procedures that can ensure a transition to an advanced port state control mechanism in accordance with other international MoUs.
It also discussed procedures of ensuring ships’ compliance with the global requirements for protecting lives and property at seas, in addition to other meeting agenda items.
