The Ministry of Transport is taking part in the Smart City Expo Doha 2022 organized under the theme “Sustaining a Future of Resilience” on March 29-30 in Msheireb Downtown Doha.
The Ministry is exhibiting some of its key transportation and mobility strategies and projects that embrace some of the latest innovative practices that are focused on environmental sustainability and clean technological solutions in such a way that backs the country’s transformation to a smart nation.
The Ministry’s booth features the strategy of transiting to electric vehicles, which backs Qatar’s agenda for a greener future by helping in striking an economic-environmental balance in a way that ensures transportation sector’s infrastructure projects sustainability by deploying clean and alternative energy.
Backing this strategy, the Ministry is collaborating with the competent entities on the Public Bus Infrastructure Program, which includes operating 8 bus stations and 4 depots equipped with electric vehicle charging devices, in addition to supplying and installing over 600 charging devices across the country. It also features the development of 2700 bus stops distributed in various areas in and outside of the city of Doha. It also includes operating Park & Ride parking service near metro stations.
The booth also showcases the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, which combines electrical and mechanical systems to link Lusail and Al Bayt Stadium as a first stage to serve the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 transportation and mobility operations. BRT system is set to expand to cover other areas that the metro does not.
The Ministry is also highlighting its studies on the autonomous vehicle (AVs) project that is initially focused on the West Bay area. The project aims to provide a highly efficient mobility system based on smart mobility technologies. The goal is to connect the most vital areas in Qatar.
The Ministry is also introducing Sila - the brand that brings together the State of Qatar’s transportation modes into one network. Currently it includes the metro, bus, tram and taxi.
The Ministry pays great attention to environmental sustainability and assigns high priority to minimizing the environmental impacts across all stages of all its land, maritime and air transportation projects.
The Smart City Expo Doha 2022, the global platform dedicated to discussing, tackling and solving the challenges facing the cities of tomorrow. It features high-profile keynote speakers from Qatar and abroad, over 100 exhibitors and 60 speakers and experts in the field of smart cities from around the world.
