HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti headed the State of Qatar’s delegation at the meetings of the 40th Session of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) General Assembly, which opened in Montreal, Canada, today, attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to Canada HE Mr. Saud bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Chairman HE Mr. Abdulla bin Nasser Turki Al Subaey.
In his speech, HE the Minister emphasized the major and deliberate steps Qatar has taken to achieve remarkable progress in its civil aviation sector through establishing and developing world-class infrastructure that responds to sustainable development goals and universal environment standards, in addition to protecting lives and property, and providing safe air routes in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
The Minister also stressed Qatar’s commitment to the international agreements and conventions of the UN and affiliated international organizations, as well as its commitment to the ICAO mission and principles and continuous cooperation with ICAO in multiple fields.
Qatar earlier submitted its application for nomination to the ICAO Council for the next three-year term within Category III.
Council membership elections will be held during this ICAO Assembly. Delegations from 192 countries and several world organizations are taking part in the event. The Assembly continues until Oct. 5. According to the ICAO Statute, ICAO Member States select only 36 countries to form the ICAO Council, which is considered the legislative body of the organization.
