London - UK
HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti held a meeting with Mr. Kitack Lim, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The two officials discussed violations by the countries of the blockade of the international and maritime agreements, causing significant harms and threat to the nautical navigation in violation of maritime agreements and conventions, particularly the 1982 Convention.
HE the Minister submitted a report on the breaches that affected the maritime safety. The report was submitted as well to 172 IMO Member States.
He invited an IMO delegation for a visit to Qatar to assess the legal, safety and security measures Qatar takes to honor its international obligations and its commitment to legal agreements, particularly in relation to safety, security and distress calls at sea for all passing vessels regardless of their flags, in compliance with international and humanitarian law.
Also discussed was Qatar’s support for the future nominations to be held at the IMO in November, in particular with regard to the necessity for the nominees to be neutral and impartial and for their home countries to be ones that apply those agreements with actions and words.
The meeting was attended by HE Qatar's Ambassador to the UK Yousef bin Ali Al Khater.
