HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti today inaugurated the sessions of QITCOM 2017, the fourth edition of Qatar’s information and communication technology exhibition and conference, taking place at the Qatar National Convention Center.
In his opening remarks, the Minister said, “We were honored yesterday that HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani visited QITCOM 2017 Exhibition. And we were also honored by the attendance of HE Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani and inauguration of the QITCOM 2017, which reflects the State’s great attention to that key event and its keenness to rise to the top digital economies.
He said the event brings together a group of innovation leaders, policymakers, technology providers, business institutions, local and international companies and entrepreneurs in the field of ICT from within and outside of Qatar.
The Minister said the sessions will be discussing experiments of different countries and innovative technologies in the field of smart cities and modern technologies on the path of building a vibrant, advanced and safe ICT sector, toward achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030 and building the knowledge-based economy.
He stressed that adopting the concepts of smart cities where technology is a key component is crucial to ensure a unique level of living for people in Qatar.
He also said that work has been underway to develop the general framework for smart and sustainable cities to provide guidelines and consultation to all sectors and to communicate the goals of a unified strategy.
He said work is also ongoing with many stakeholders in industrial sector, academic and research institutions, environment entities, urban development entities and healthcare sector to build a high-quality infrastructure that contributes to building smart systems.
