London – Doha

HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti held a working session in London today with a group of businesspeople and investors. The session discussed free zones, particularly the Jebel Ali Free Zone where investors have difficulties shipping their cargo through it to the State of Qatar.

The meeting witnessed discussions on finding alternative solutions, especially because the products being shipped there are not coming from any of the countries of the blockade, but rather from the countries of the investors and are part of their own investments.

The meeting also included an explanation on cargo delivery mechanism and the procedures applied. Investors at the meeting said access to free zones should not be subject to the whims of politics, wondering about the future of investments.

The free zone adjacent to the Hamad Port was also a topic of discussion at the meeting, where Qatar proved commitment to contracts and agreements even under the unfair blockade and proved it is a truly safe and attractive zone thanks to Qatar’s commitment to agreements and contracts, for instance, its commitment to agreements and obligations in the energy sector. That was demonstrated by the Qatari minister of energy and industry and Qatar Petroleum’s managing director. Commitment is also present for all substances being exported from Qatar.

Investors and businesspeople at the meeting affirmed Qatar ports’ compliance with the maritime law regarding entry, departure and refueling for all vessels, as well as the right of using those ports as ports of distress and in emergencies, and said Qatar took no arbitrary measures in violation of the international law, something that proves its credibility and high commitment.
