The Ministry of Transport and Communications’ fifth virtual forum dedicated for SMEs starts tomorrow. Titled “The Digitization of SMEs: An Alternative to Survive”, the 2-day event aims to introduce SMEs in Qatar to the era of digital transformation.
Held in collaboration with Hamad Bin Khalifa University, the forum will review some of the best regional and international digital transformation practices, featuring expert speakers from MOTC and HBKU, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development.
The forum features four sessions on “Cloud Services”, “Advancement in Technology & Impact on Business Growth: Cloud Computing and Data Driven Intelligence”, “Blockchain Benefits for SMEs” and “Fintech & Blockchain: Applications & Use Cases for SME Business Innovation”.
Day 1 of the forum focuses on using cloud services in business. Dr. Aiman Erbad, Associate Professor, CSE, HBKU, will explain how has “Everything as a Service” (EaaS) revolutionized the startups and how can traditional enterprises compete? He will also highlight a success story from Qatar in this regard.
AlHasan AlSammarraie, Founding Partner and General Manager, AppLab, will talk about cloud computing and the tremendous scalability advantages to companies that allow them keep their focus on growing their businesses rather than constantly being limited with their infrastructure.
Day 2 focuses on the potential applications of Blockchain in business. Dr. Mohamed Abdallah, Associate Professor, CSE, HBKU, will explain how SMEs can benefit from Blockchain technologies through enhanced transparency and traceability in the form of easier payment solutions, smart contracts, decentralized cloud storage, logistic and supply chain traceability.
Prof. Roberto Di Pietro, Professor, CSE, HBKU, will shed light on applications and use cases of fintech technologies and Blockchain and how such new technologies could be a game-changer for SMEs, in addition to the advantages, challenges and opportunities for economic development that fintech technologies represent for SMEs.
