Sponsored by the Ministry of Transport, the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) today wrapped up an Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) training course it organized in cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Held on two phases from March 27 to March 30, the course comes in preparation for the operational intensity during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. In addition to Qatar, representatives from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Sudan, participated in the course.
Featuring global experts, the course aims to effectively contribute to managing the air traffic flow between airspaces of the countries of the region to secure smooth and safe flights during the FIFA event.
Course attendees were introduced to the advantages of the navigation systems applied by the CAA so that countries of the region can provide efficient and safe services, commensurate with a potentially high air traffic flow during the global event and in line with the set regional plan.
ICAO put the training course’s agenda and topics. Using simulators, the attendees were briefed on the applied navigation system and its powerful features, in addition to sharing daily air traffic predictions with the countries concerned.
Mr. Mohamed Faleh Alhajri, who is in charge of managing the CAA, said that the course comes in the context of the country’s preparation for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and within the framework of their fruitful collaboration with the ICAO and countries of the region regarding managing the air traffic flow during the coming period.
He said that the aim is to provide efficient services and ensure flight safety and smooth and flexible air traffic during the FIFA championship.
