The Ministry of Transport has joined the international community celebrating the Day of the
Seafarer 2026, through a special event recognizing and appreciating the seafarers and those working in the maritime industry.
On this occasion, the MOT honored a number of national talents and professionals working in maritime, in recognition of their dedicated efforts, valuable contributions, and services.
For MOT’s Assistant Undersecretary for Maritime Transport Affairs Abdulaziz Abdullah Al-Sulaiti, the day is an important occasion that MOT observers annually to celebrate the seafarers alongside international maritime authorities and organizations out of its care for the wellbeing and safety of seafarers and mariners, and its appreciation for their dedicated efforts in serving the maritime navigation. “It is an expression of how grateful we are for their contributions, efforts, and sacrifices, and an occasion to bring to everyone’s attention the challenges and risks they encounter while performing their professional duties to ensure a smooth flow and safety of global trade.”
The MOT continues developing the maritime industry to the best universal standards and practices to further enhance Qatar’s profile as a leading maritime hub, he said.
The MOT is also committed to developing and upskilling more human resources in maritime and logistics industries and empowering more national talents, he noted. The MOT continues working closely with all relevant entities on training and scholarship programs to qualify the next generation of national talents for high-quality positions in the industry, Al-Sulaiti said.
The MOT also marked the day by launching “Recognition Endorsement for Electro-Technical Officers” – as a brand-new maritime service. This comes as part of MOT’s ongoing development of its electronic services for better performance and higher efficiency.
The ETO service is available online for companies, the private sector, and government entities where they can have the recognition endorsement issued for those working on Qatari ships.
The Day of the Seafarer (25 June) was established in a resolution adopted by the 2010 Diplomatic Conference in Manila to adopt the revised STCW Convention. Its stated purpose is to recognize the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and civil society as a whole.
