Minister Meets with Slovenia Minister, European Commission Vice-President

Luxemburg - DohaMinister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti held separate talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia HE Anže Logar, whose country is the current President of the Council of the EU, and the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission HE Josep Borrell, in Luxemburg today on the sidelines of the ceremony on Qatar signing of the Comprehensive Air Transport Agreement with the EU.The two meetings discussed enhancing cooperation ties between Qatar, the EU and the European Commission in the fields of civil aviation and transportation, and means of further developing them, in addition to shedding light on opportunities of development in the aviation industry.

Minister Heads Qatar Delegation to 2nd UN Global Sustainable Transport Conf

Doha - QatarThe State of Qatar has participated in the Second United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference. Hosted by Beijing, China, the Conference was inaugurated today via videoconferencing by President of the People's Republic of China HE Xi Jinping and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The Qatari delegation was headed by Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti.The minister also participated in the Plenary Ministerial Session held during the conference and chaired by Chinese Minister of Transport HE Li Xiaopeng. Providing an opportunity to focus attention on the opportunities, challenges and solutions towards achieving sustainable transport worldwide, the event is attended by several heads of states and governments, diplomats, representatives of international and civil society organizations and chairs of businesses and organizations from the private sector.The Conference is discussing key transportation issues that serve the UN Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 and the Paris Climate Agreement, in addition to several topics relating to the impact of sustainable transportation on economic recovery, green development, regional development, innovation, city sustainability, poverty eradication and the role of technology in transportation sector sustainability. Qatar has made great strides on its ecofriendly sustainable transportation plans. In this regard, MOTC, in association with bodies concerned, has begun executing a strategy for a full and gradual switch to electric buses, aiming to electrify public transit buses by 2030. Work is underway to set up the necessary infrastructure for the first phase of the transformation plan, including establishing stations and warehouses for electric buses, scheduled to be finalized by 2022. Work is also ongoing to establish 100 parking spaces for electric vehicles and to install more than 600 charging units as a first phase. In addition, MOTC, in collaboration with the bodies concerned, has begun rolling out the EURO 5 diesel regulation for cars – a diesel with lower impact on the environment.With regard to ports, the second phase of Hamad Port is powered by clean electric energy, thus contributing to achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030.

Hadi Sirika, who is currently visiting the country. The two ministers discussed aspects of cooperation in the fields of transportation services and civil aviation and means of further enhancing them in addition to a number of matters of common interest between the two friendly countries. Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Chairman HE Mr. Abdulla bin Nasser Turki Al Subaey and HE Mr. Yakubu Abdullahi Ahmed, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Qatar, attended the meeting.

Minister Meets with Central African Republic Transport Minister

Doha – Qatar Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met with the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of the Central African Republic HE DJONO-AHABA Herbert Gontran, at Ministry offices today. The meeting discussed aspects of cooperation in the fields of transportation and civil aviation services and ways of further enhancing them, in addition to discussing several topics that interest the two friendly countries. Following the meeting, the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) initialed an air services agreement with the Central African Republic National Authority of Civil Aviation (ANAC). They also signed an MoU in the field of air transportation between the two sides, allowing the national carrier to operate any number of passenger or cargo flights with full transportation rights. The agreement and the MoU were signed by CAA Chairman HE Mr. Abdulla bin Nasser Turki al-Subaiey and Director General of ANAC HE Mr. François Edly Follot.

Minister Inaugurates Transport Engineering Conference

Doha – Qatar Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti today inaugurated the Transport Engineering Conference & Exhibition organized by the Qatar Society of Engineers under the sponsorship of MOTC. Concluding this Oct. 6, the event’s opening session was attended by several government officials representing transportation and infrastructure sectors. MOTC backs the conference due to its importance – the first of its kind being held in Qatar. Its events feature all engineering branches of transportation industry. The event offers a unique opportunity for exchange of expertise and knowledge in areas of transportation engineering and ways of benefiting from latest technologies and practices applied regionally and globally. During the exhibition, some MOTC professionals are making presentations on key sector activities such as developing strategic plans and concept designs for road networks, road networks assessment and surveys to improve their quality and traffic safety, and regulating land transport activities in line with laws and regulations released in this respect. Several MOTC professionals representing land and maritime transport affairs are also participating in conference sessions and panel discussions. There will be presentations on land transport activities at the exhibition. Presentations feature the news ideas that are necessary for a sustainable development of land transport sector and transportation.
