IATA World Financial Symposium Opens in Doha

Doha – Qatar The 4th edition of the IATA World Financial Symposium (WFS) opened in Doha today, patronized and attended by Minister of Transport HE Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti. Several senior executives and financial leaders from the aviation industry attended the events of the first day. Minister Al-Sulaiti said he was pleased for Doha’s hosting of the 4th edition of IATA WFS, which brings together top financial leaders from the aviation industry for the first time since Covid-19 pandemic began. IATA WFS, he added, represents an exceptional platform to discuss the status quo of aviation market, aiming to come up with some worthwhile ways that are based on innovation and creativity to address current and future challenges through enhancing close and fruitful cooperation among all parties. He also praised IATA’s significant efforts to joining forces toward safe and sustainable air transportation. The two-day symposium is featuring over 50 expert speakers across the airline and financial sectors, discussing strategic topics relative to the industry’s financial outlook and future sustainability.

Ministry Participates in 18th Int’l Public Works Exhibition

Algiers – Algeria The Ministry of Transport is taking part in the 18th International Public Works Exhibition (SITP) that opened in Algiers under the patronage of Algeria’s Prime Minister. MOT’s participation is part of the larger State of Qatar’s as an honorary guest in this year’s edition, which ends this Sept. 23. MOT is highlighting the Transportation Master Plan for Qatar 2050, which works as a roadmap for investing in land transportation infrastructure and identifies frameworks and future orientations for developing the transportation networks countrywide. SITP is one of the largest commercial events worldwide in the field of public works and establishments. Many countries take part in this year’s edition; including Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Turkey, Germany and China. SITP is an excellent platform for exchange of expertise and views on public works, road projects and transportation facilities.

Tehran – Iran Minister of Transport HE Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met with Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran HE Mr. Rostam Ghasemi, in Tehran today. The two ministers reviewed aspects of cooperation in the fields of transportation, maritime navigation, commercial harbors, air transportation and civil aviation and ways to further develop them. Qatar’s Ambassador to Iran HE Mohammed bin Hamad Al Hajri attended the meeting.

Doha – Qatar Minister of Transport HE Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met with Minister for Transport of the Republic of South Africa HE Mr. Fikile Mbalula. During the meeting, which was held at Ministry’s offices today, the two ministers reviewed aspects of Qatari-S. African cooperation in the fields of transportation, civil aviation, harbors, and means to further enhance them. Ms. Poppy Khoza, Director of Civil Aviation, S. African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA), S. Africa’s Ambassador to the State of Qatar HE Ghulam Hoosein Asmal, and the delegation escorting the S. African minister, attended the meeting.

Minister Inaugurates Sila Operation Center – Qatar’s New Hub for Integrated Public Transport Network

Doha – Qatar Minister of Transport HE Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti today inaugurated “Sila Operation Center”, which will represent the nucleus of Qatar’s Public Transport Integrated Services. The event was attended by Minister of Municipality HE Abdulla bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie and President of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) Dr. Eng. Saad bin Ahmad Al Muhannadi. The Center includes Sila Brand Management and Wayfinding, Unified Electronic Ticketing hub and related payment systems, Central Clearing house and test authority. The Center will also compliment the work of the National Transport Coordination Center and the Land Transport Safety Committee. In the past few years, the Ministry of Transport has made strides in effectively improving public transport in The State of Qatar, thereby encouraging its usage. The ministry’s initiatives included enhancement in public transport services such as introducing new modes of public transport, integration of a multimodal transport system, and launching Sila, which brings together the public transport network through services such as a journey planner through its app and website. Commenting on the Sila Operation Center inauguration, HE Minister Al-Sulaiti said, “We launched Sila with the mission to bring together the State of Qatar’s public transport modes into an integrated network, offering people the smartest choices for travel and supporting the country’s ongoing development. Today, we take another step in that direction by inaugurating what will become a hub for all future sustainable public transport milestones, aiming to achieve a fundamental change in Qatar’s public transport network and enhance its efficiency to create a more connected and sustainable transport network for generations to come.” Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalid Al-Thani, Director of the Technical Affairs Department at the Ministry of Transport, said, “Sila is the result of an ambitious vision to connect individual public transport modes and create a sustainable future, ultimately benefiting citizens, residents, and tourists alike. Sila currently includes the metro, bus, tram, and taxi. It is being launched in phases and will include several initiatives such as integrated payment options, introducing new services and transport modes and promoting the public transport network through public awareness and marketing initiatives to reach a wide audience within The State of Qatar” Once integrated payment options are fully launched, the Sila call center will focus on managing all financial passenger inquires related to ticketing and journey planning, among others, while the individual public transport modes’ call centers will continue to manage all non-financial inquires. Doha – Qatar Ministry of Transport has been appreciated by the Permanent Committee for the Management of Maritime Ports in recognition of its contributions to public interest. Committee Chairman Brig. Dr. Abdulhadi Mohamed al-Dossari presented the Ministry an honorary shield and certificate of appreciation, received by MOT’s Assistant Undersecretary, Maritime Transport Affairs, Dr. Saleh bin Fetais Al Marri, during an event organized by the Committee, with participation from its collaborators.
