Doha – QatarMinister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met with Minister of Digital Development and Transportation of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Rashad Nabiyev, who is currently visiting Qatar to attend some of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 events.The meeting was held in the Ministry’s offices today. The two ministers reviewed Qatar-Azerbaijan cooperation ties in transportation, commercial harbors, civil aviation, and ways to develop them.H.E. Nabiyev congratulated Qatar on a successful hosting of the global tournament.

Minister Meets with Iran’s Roads, Urban Development Minister

Tehran – Iran Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met with Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran H.E. Mehrdad Bazrpash, in Tehran today. The two ministers reviewed aspects of Qatar-Iran cooperation in the fields of transportation, maritime navigation, commercial harbors, air transportation and civil aviation, and ways to enhance them. Qatar’s Ambassador to Iran H.E. Mohammed bin Hamad Al Hajri attended the meeting. H.E. Minister Al-Sulaiti also offered his condolences on the death of former Minister of Roads and Urban Development H.E. Rostam Ghasemi, recognizing his efforts to develop bilateral relations in the areas of transportation.

E-Vehicle Transformation Strategy Enters New Stages

Doha – Qatar The Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) is set to supply, install, and operate some 37 electric vehicle charging units at 22 of Woqod stations in Doha and its vicinities, as well as in Al-Khor, Al-Wakra, and border outlets. The move comes in implementation of the action plans relative to the strategy of transforming to e-vehicles in Qatar, developed by the Ministry of Transport. This comes in the context of ongoing concerted efforts between the executive entities and the national companies to achieve the goals of the strategy. This step is to be added to the country’s record of accomplishments in terms of executing the strategy’s plans for switching to e-vehicles. The first phase was completed; 25% of the buses assigned for the World Cup tournament’s transportation service is electric. And in conjunction with the national corporations and executive entities, MOT supplied and installed more than 650 e-bus charging units at the public bus stations and depots inaugurated this year, as well as at Doha Metro stations, and several other locations within the paths of e-buses that are used for public transit and the transportation of FIFA Qatar 2022 fans. Such achievements are becoming a permanent legacy for clean energy mass transit system after the tournament, something which will boost Qatar’s ranking in that field.

London- Coinciding with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Ministry of Transport has established a FIFA fan zone at the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London. MOT wants to offer IMO representatives an opportunity to watch and enjoy the matches. IMO Secretary General Kitack Lim attended some of the events there, which were also attended by representatives of several Member States.

MOT Takes Part in 35th Session of Council of Arab Transport Ministers

Alexandria – Egypt A Ministry of Transport delegation has participated in the 35th Session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Transport, held at the headquarters of the Arab Academy of Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport in Alexandria, Egypt. The delegation was chaired by Qatar’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative of Qatar to the Arab League H.E. Salem Mubarak Al Shafi. The Session discussed several issues that contribute to supporting joint Arab action and relate to the transportation sector. It also discussed latest updates regarding the Arab Agreement to Regulate Passenger Road Transport between and across the Member States of the Arab League and the draft convention on regulating maritime transportation of passengers and cargo between the Arab countries. The Session also discussed approving the modified draft agreement on mutual exemptions on taxes and customs duties on Arab air transport’s activities and equipment.

HIA & DIA Record Over 1500 Air Movements

Doha – Qatar More than 1500 air movements have been recorded at both Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport since the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 began. Qatar is expected to see a significant increase in the number of passengers and aircraft movement with the mass arrival of fans and visitors to the global sporting event. Years ago, the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority has carried out comprehensive development plans in the Qatari airspace in terms of increasing the number of air routes for inbound and outbound airplanes, to and from Qatar, and upgrading all the systems and technologies used in air navigation.
