President of Poland Meets with Minister Al-Sulaiti

President of the Republic of Poland H.E. Andrzej Duda met today with Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, on the sidelines of his participation in the fourth annual Qatar Economic Forum.The two officials discussed bilateral cooperation relations in the areas of transportation, and ways to enhance them, particularly in ecofriendly transportation. They also discussed several topics that interest the two countries.

Minister Meets with Member of German Bundestag

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met with Member of the German Parliament (the Bundestag) H.E. Julia Klöckner.Held in the Ministry’s offices today, the meeting discussed aspects of cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Federal Republic of Germany in transportation, and ways to develop and enhance them, particularly in terms of ecofriendly and self-driving mobility.The German Ambassador to Qatar H.E. Lothar Freischlader attended the meeting.

Minister Meets with Chairman of Yutong IBD

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met with Mr. Wang Wentao, Chairman of International Business in the Chinese Yutong, the leading global e-bus manufacturer.Meeting in the Ministry’s offices today, they discussed cooperation relations, and work progress on the strategic partnership for establishing a factory for manufacturing e-buses at the free zones in Qatar. They also discussed bilateral cooperation on mutual investments between Yutong and Mowasalat (Karwa).The meeting was attended by several Ministry officials, officials representing the Qatari transportation industry, and the delegation accompanying Mr. Wentao.

MOT, Relevant Entities Wrap Up Maritime Inspection Campaign at Al Wakra

The MOT has conducted a new inspection campaign on maritime vessels at Al Wakra Port in collaboration with MOI’s General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security, Ministry of Municipality, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and Qatar Tourism. The campaign aimed at ensuring that the maritime vessels meet all safety and legal requirements of all the entities represented in the campaign.Professionals from MOT inspected safety and security equipment to make sure of their availability and validity, as well as helmsmen’s compliance with all safety instructions as per the laws and regulations in place.

Autonomous e-Mobility Forum Concludes

The Autonomous e-Mobility Forum, held under the patronage of Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, concluded today at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC).The two-day event was hosted by the Ministry of Transport and organized by Just us & Otto Marketing Services.Day 2 of the Forum featured several panel discussions, where MOT panelists presented working papers on the main topic of the Forum, and MOT’s Autonomous Vehicle Strategy and Ministry efforts to put it in motion by adopting the third level of the self-driving system, the legislative and technological requirements, and the necessary digital infrastructure. The Ministry also highlighted its strategy for the gradual and comprehensive electrification of public buses to reach 100% by 2030, supported by the Public Bus Infrastructure Program.The Program consists of 8 bus stations in Al Sudan, Msheireb, Al Gharrafa, Lusail, Al Wakra, Education City, Industrial Area, and West Bay Central, and 4 bus depots in Lusail, the New Industrial Area, Al Wakra, and Al Rayyan. All these facilities are supported by electric charging infrastructure. The Program also includes 4 Park & Ride parking locations in Al Qassar, Al Wakra, Lusail, and Education City, that can accommodate over 1000 vehicles.Developed in an area of more than 400,000m², the Lusail Bus Depot is recorded on the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest e-bus depot, with a capacity of 478 buses. It is the first in the Middle East to be relying on solar energy; as it includes some 11,000 PV solar panels generating 4-6 megawatts of power daily to feed its buildings, in line with Qatar's National Environment and Climate Change Strategy (QNE) and the goals of the QNV2030. Addressing the “Defining Sustainable Mobility” panel discussion, MOT officials highlighted the Transportation Master Plan for Qatar 2050 (TMPQ)’s vision and strategic objectives, focusing particularly on the sustainability elements. The MOT carries out such plans to achieve human, financial, and environmental sustainability in the land transportation field, which is front and center in the QNV2030. TMPQ’s sustainable transportation projects’ current priority is to broaden public transit networks, apply transportation demand management measures, and carry out infrastructure projects for electric transformation and smart transportation, many of which were delivered by the MOT over the past few years.Day 2 panel discussions also tackled next generation railways, e-mobility retail and markets, unleashing the potential of the mobility ecosystem, advancements in maritime transport, and air mobility. Additionally, the private sector also introduced ecofriendly trucks, the first in Qatar, at the accompanying exhibition. The closing session of the Forum recommended enhancing the exchange of expertise, knowledge and studies between stakeholders concerned with and relevant to self-driving and electric mobility, to foster cooperation over the future of the real-world rollout of autonomous and electric vehicles.As the Forum concludes, the event sponsors were honored: Mowasalat (Karwa), the forum’s transportation partner, Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) and Microsoft as gold sponsors, Al Jaidah Group and the Qatar Free Zones Authority as silver sponsors, and Al Abdul Ghani Motors, QTerminals, Uber and DHL as bronze sponsors. Also honored were the entities and companies from public and private sectors. The delegations participating in the Forum will be taken on a tour to some of Qatar’s transportation facilities; namely the Lusail Bus Depot and Hamad Port, known for their global ecofriendly technologies and systems.

Transport, Education Ministers Launch First Tranche of Electric School Buses

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti and Minister of Education and Higher Education H.E. Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi today launched the first tranche of electric school buses, on the sidelines of the Autonomous e-Mobility Forum. Several officials representing the Qatari transportation industry were in attendance.This comes in the context of executing the strategy developed by the Ministry of Transport for the gradual and comprehensive electrification of the public bus system to reach 100% by 2030, thereby achieving the goals of the 3rd Qatar National Development Strategy and the pillars of the QNV2030.Mowasalat (Karwa) will put these e-buses on a test run this academic year as part of its comprehensive campaign to educate schoolchildren about e-mobility. This is aligned with MOT’s plans and strategies for sustainability, and green and clean environment for the coming generations.These e-buses have additional safety features consistent with the highest universal criteria. They also use the latest global technologies. One of their features ensures that the driver cannot leave any child in the bus, in addition to surveillance cameras inside and outside of the bus, safe passenger seating setup, an emergency exit, and clear visibility for the driver and passengers.Each e-bus also includes an automatic firefighting system, well-performing air conditioner, safety lock on doors with a sensor system, first-aid boxes, engine sensor systems, external sensors, a GPS, and driver performance monitoring system.
