Minister Attends 2nd Quartet Ministerial Meeting on Development Road Project

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti has participated in the second quartet Ministerial Council meeting on the Development Road project and Al-Faw Port development.The meeting was held in Baghdad today in attendance of Iraqi Minister of Transport H.E. Razzaq Muhaibas Al-Saadawi, U.A.E. Minister of Energy and Infrastructure H.E. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, and Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister H.E. Abdulkadir Uraloglu.The meeting discussed the latest progress on that strategic project as shown by the project consultants in terms of the railroads and highway works. The meeting also witnessed the signing of a quartet ministerial communiqué, which included endorsing the coordination structure for the project work management and governance, urging the States parties to exchange information and intensify efforts to achieve the project’s desired goals, and studying ways and alternatives of railroad and land connection to deepen the economic and trade exchange between them and with the rest of the world and enhance the transportation of passengers and goods.The Development Road will connect the Grand Al-Faw Port with the borders of Turkey with a 1200-kilometer-long railroad and highway for the transporting of goods and passengers.

Minister Meets with UAE’s GCAA Director General

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met, in the ministry’s offices, with the Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority of the United Arab Emirates H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi.The meeting discussed aspects of cooperation between the two sisterly countries in the areas of civil aviation and ways to enhance them, particularly regarding the use of smart and ecofriendly technologies on air transportation.Mr. Mohammed Faleh Al-Hajri, in charge of managing the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, was in attendance.

WFP’s 16th Global Humanitarian Aviation Conf. Opens in Doha

The 16th Global Humanitarian Aviation Conference & Exhibition opened in Doha today under the slogan, “Journey of Hope.”The GHAC is patronized by the Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti and organized by the UN World Food Program in association with organizations concerned with humanitarian aviation.The opening ceremony was attended by the Chairman of Qatar Tourism H.E. Saad bin Ali Al Kharji, high-profile aviation industry and air transportation officials from Qatar, several Arab and foreign civil aviation authority chiefs, representatives from the International Civil Aviation Organization and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, air operators, aircraft manufacturers, and aviation service providers.In his opening speech, Minister Al-Sulaiti highlighted Qatar’s support for global and UN humanitarian agencies amid economic challenges and funding gap that face the efforts of development in the least developed and neediest countries.He also highlighted the national carrier of Qatar’s continuous work with the UNOCHA and UNHCR through joint activities on advocacy, donations, shipping, and the delivery of relief items to refugees and the displaced at UNHCR’s areas of operation around the world.He also noted QA’s contribution to evacuating thousands of civilians from the Kabul International Airport and its key role during the Coronavirus pandemic, as it had transported over 3 million passengers safely, reunited families, and helped passengers return home safe aboard unscheduled flights amid global shutdowns.He added that the State of Qatar believes in the lofty goals and efforts of the UN and international agencies in the humanitarian field, and never failed in extending a helping hand to humanitarian cases of wars, conflicts, natural disasters, and pandemics. The air bridges it operated to several countries in this regard is testament to that. Minister Al-Sulaiti pointed out that the successful delivery of lifesaving aid by civil aviation to people in need, wherever they are, necessitates cooperation between all parties all the time and this international conference, which brings together multiple bodies concerned with civil aviation, is the best platform for collaboration and for paving the way to ushering in new initiatives and innovative pastorships that can help further improve the efficiency of humanitarian air operations by deepening partners’ collaboration.The 3-day 16th GHAC discusses reinforcing civil aviation authority capabilities, aviation industries, and the national agencies working where humanitarian organizations are active, aiming to enhance the relation between aviation operators, support the all-out collaboration on the aviation industry, reduce the level of risks, and avoid aviation disasters.

Oliver Zipse, in the ministry’s offices today.They discussed bilateral cooperation relations and ways to develop and enhance them in the areas of advanced electric technologies on transportation, emerging technologies, and autonomous systems.

Minister Witnesses Qatar-Afghanistan Air Services MoU

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti today witnessed the signing of an air services Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the State of Qatar and Afghanistan. The MoU is increasing air traffic rights between the two countries.The MoU comes in the context of connecting the State of Qatar with more air services agreements, allowing for its national carrier to expand its network of destinations around the world.The MoU was signed by Mr. Mohammed Faleh Al-Hajri, in charge of managing the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, and Mr. Mula Abdul Salam Haidari, Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation of the Afghanistan caretaker government.Minister Al-Sulaiti and Mr. Haidari discussed bilateral cooperation ties in the areas of civil aviation and transportation, as they met following the MoU signing ceremony.

MoU on Qatar Hosting ICAO FALC 2025 Signed

The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding arrangements for Qatar hosting the ICAO Facilitation Conference 2025 (FLAC 2025), slated for Q2 of 2025.In attendance of Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, the MoU was signed by Mr. Mohammed Faleh Al-Hajri, in charge of managing the QCAA, and President of the ICAO Council H.E. Salvatore Sciacchitano.Minister Al-Sulaiti commented by saying that FALC 2025 will offer stakeholders an important opportunity to define priorities and establish cooperation between entities working in civil aviation and the national and international procedures on the correct identification of passengers.FALC 2025 is the first of its kind, he added, in terms of combining the ministerial level and high-profile officials representing civil aviation authorities of world countries and the international bodies to reach a consensus to formulate global recommendations regarding key issues of air transportation facilitation.What makes FALC 2025 unique is that a ministerial announcement regarding civil aviation facilitations would emanate from the high-level ministerial part of it and that announcement aims at providing aviation services for reliable and seamless air transportation, guiding the public policies concerning key issues of facilitation, thereby supporting the delivery of the ICAO strategic goals on security and facilitations, as well as reporting recommendations to next year’s 42nd Session of the ICAO, the minister said.Qatar continues developing its national facilitations’ procedures and processes, embracing latest passenger identification technologies, developing airports’ facilities and services, and twinning its systems with global standards in terms of surveillance, clearance of goods, passenger data exchange, International Health Regulations, and other areas of facilitation.Qatar is well-prepared to host this important global event, he said. The concerted efforts with the ICAO will achieve the desired outcomes of the conference and the effective rollout of air transportation’s facilitation measures, he added.“We look forward to fruitful discussions and workshops during the conference and to introduce the delegates to latest global technologies and air transportation facilitation systems which global exhibitors will showcase at the accompanying exhibition,” the minister said.Mr. Al-Hajri said, “We believe that implementing international facilitation standards is essential not only for global commitment but also for sustainable development. Qatar’s aviation sector prioritizes enhancing policies and procedures to ensure a comfortable and secure travel experience. We are also committed to ongoing training initiatives to build our capabilities and ensure compliance with the ICAO regulations. Hosting this conference allows for us to share our experiences and benefit from international expertise.”He added that the signing of this MoU marks a significant milestone for 2024, designated by the ICAO as the Year of Facilitation, and we take pride in Qatar’s active role in the ICAO Facilitation Expert Team. Qatar remains committed to advancing border facilitation while supporting ICAO’s “No Country Left Behind” initiative, he added.“We look forward to achieving meaningful outcomes from this conference and establishing a unified global vision for air transportation facilitation that benefits both states and stakeholders,” Mr. Al-Hajri said.
