Doha –The Ministry of Transport and Communications celebrated the Qatar National Day at MIA Park today.The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the Qatar Aeronautical College (QAC), Qatar Rail, Mowasalat (Karwa) and the Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar) joined the Ministry’s celebrations.The event saw large participation from several senior officials and staff members from the Ministry and entities working in transport sector amid feelings of joy and happiness of the national day anniversary.The program of the event featured several interactive and entertaining activities with a national spirit where attendees got a unique opportunity to be introduced to some aspects of the ancient Qatari heritage.

South Korean Startup Team Visits Ministry’s Digital Incubation Center

Doha – Seeking potential partnerships and cooperation in the field of entrepreneurship and technology-based startups with their Qatari peers, a delegation from the Korea Startups Association (KStA) has paid a visit to the Digital Incubation Center (DIC) at the Ministry of Transport and Communications.The delegation included CEOs and founders of over ten South Korean startups, some of which are already operating in the South Korean market and abroad. Others are still in the phase of building and developing their ideas. The visit was conducted in collaboration with the Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC).Among the visiting startups, which provide smart solutions and applications for multiple sectors in South Korea and beyond such as infrastructure, healthcare, customer service, e-commerce, business and contact centers, are MINDs Lab, Monorama, paybot, pyundoori and Happy Moonday.Duha Al-Buhendi, Digital Incubation Center Manager, and her team introduced the visiting Korean team to the DIC with presentations and briefings on DIC history, activities, vision and mission and the services provided to young entrepreneurs in Qatar.She also explained some of the smart solutions and applications provided by the startups incubated at the DIC.“In association with QBIC, we are delighted to welcome the South Korean team here at DIC. This is a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs and startups in Qatar to meet with their peers from South Korea; to talk, exchange expertise and benefit from shared experiences, as well as learning about their successes and challenges while exploring the contribution start-ups to boosting the digital economy in both countries,” said Al-Buhendi.She added that the DIC under the umbrella of the Ministry of Transport and Communications “places great attention on hosting, communicating and networking with entrepreneurs and startup companies from other countries in order to bring Qatari entrepreneurs together with their counterparts worldwide.” The exchange of expertise and highlighting innovative ideas and solutions also encourages future cooperation and partnership, she noted.Founded in 2011, DIC offers expertise and professional guidance in the fields of technology and business. Services include access to space, business planning, education and training, mentorship, and legal advice throughout the phases of the start-up development.

Q-CERT Conducts Phase 1 of 5th National Cybersecurity Drill “Star 5”

Doha – Qatar (Dec. 4, 2017)In the presence of HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, the Qatar Computer Emergency Response Team (Q-CERT) today launched the first phase of its 5th National Cybersecurity Drill “Star 5”, with participation from more than 70 entities representing various sectors, including government, financial, energy, transportation, communications, in addition to government and semi-government companies. Attended by over 350 professionals from various industries, Star 5’s first phases focus on procedural training. It includes scenarios that differ from one sector to another, aiming to assess the availability of procedural preparedness such as the relevant policies and standards. It also features scenarios that simulate communication at crises, which is one of the lessons learned from the blockade.     The 5th National Cyber Security Drill completes a series of national drills that the Ministry began in 2013 aiming to develop and raise the efficiency and preparedness of State institutions to address the cyberattacks, said Mr. Khalid Al-Hashmi, Assistant Undersecretary of Cyber Security, Ministry of Transport and Communications.This aims, he said, to achieve the objectives of the Qatar National Cyber Security Strategy; developing and harnessing the national cyber security capabilities, enhancing preparedness, responding to, resolving and recovering from incidents and cyberattacks via cooperation and timely information sharing.The second phase, which begins next week, is going to focus on the technical aspect of the drill. This aims to sharpen cyber threats monitoring, surveillance and containment capacity and skills.Noteworthy, Q-CERT last week organized a preliminary workshop entitled, “Communication Management in Times of Crisis” where participants were introduced to internal and external communication best practices in times of crisis that public and private organizations might encounter.

MOTC Launches National Integrated Transit Marketing and Wayfinding Program

Doha, Qatar -The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) has formally launched a national integrated public transport marketing and wayfinding program that will enable citizens, residents, and tourists to better understand and access Qatar’s upcoming multi-modal transit system.The program has been designed to promote Qatar’s public transportation system, its convenience, and its benefits as well as increase the awareness and perception of public transport in the country and Contribute to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030.HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti has given directives on the importance of completing the current study on the program during 2018, that will unify and raise the public transport image.  The program will help enable a number of important developments in Qatar’s public transportation infrastructure, including the launch of rail, ferry, taxi and enhanced bus services reaching communities across the country.The integrated marketing and wayfinding project will involve five distinct phases starting with research into global best practices, followed by a gap analysis, the formulation of an integrated marketing and wayfinding strategy, and then the campaign frameworks and measurement tools to ensure its effective delivery.Speaking on behalf of MOTC, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalid Bin Jassim Al Thani, the project sponsor and Director of the MOTC Technical Affairs Department commented: “This project is among the most important in the rollout of the new public transportation facilities. The investment in hard infrastructure is almost complete, and now it is up to us to understand, engage, and motivate all parties to get on board and on the move with public transportation. Making it a success will require close integration with entities across the country, and a shared vision for what public transportation can achieve.”

Sistan – IranHE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti participated today in the inauguration ceremony of the first phase of the Shahid Beheshti Port of Chabahar, Iran, under the patronage and in the attendance of HE Iranian President Hassan Rohani.Several chiefs of states, ministers, diplomats, and senior officials from a number of world countries participated in the inauguration ceremony; among them Qatar’s Ambassador in Tehran HE Mr. Ali bin Hamad Al Sulaiti.The Shahid Beheshti Port of Chabahar is now the only and largest port in Iran on the Indian Ocean and will significantly help in regional development with the rest of world countries.

HE Minister Meets with IMO Secretary-General

London - UK   HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti held talks with the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Mr. Kitack Lim, at IMO’s premises in London Today.The meeting discussed bilateral relations between Qatar and IMO in the field of marine transport industry and means of further enhancing and developing them.The two officials also discussed Qatar’s backing of Council membership nominations from countries that show compliance and application of all IMO and UN maritime laws and agreements, at the IMO’s 30th General Assembly elections.The meeting was attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to the UK HE Mr. Yousef bin Ali Al Khater.
