Montreal  – CanadaHE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti held talks in Montreal, Canada today with the Head of the Brazilian Diplomatic Delegation to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Director President at Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency, HE Mr. José Ricardo Botelho.The meeting discussed aspects of cooperation in the fields of transportation services and civil aviation and potential investment opportunities available in those fields.The meeting was attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to Canada HE Mr. Saud bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Chairman HE Mr. Abdulla bin Nasser Turki Al Subaey.

Minister Heads Qatar Delegation to 40th Session of ICAO Assembly

Montreal – Canada HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti headed the State of Qatar’s delegation at the meetings of the 40th Session of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) General Assembly, which opened in Montreal, Canada, today, attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to Canada HE Mr. Saud bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Chairman HE Mr. Abdulla bin Nasser Turki Al Subaey. In his speech, HE the Minister emphasized the major and deliberate steps Qatar has taken to achieve remarkable progress in its civil aviation sector through establishing and developing world-class infrastructure that responds to sustainable development goals and universal environment standards, in addition to protecting lives and property, and providing safe air routes in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. The Minister also stressed Qatar’s commitment to the international agreements and conventions of the UN and affiliated international organizations, as well as its commitment to the ICAO mission and principles and continuous cooperation with ICAO in multiple fields. Qatar earlier submitted its application for nomination to the ICAO Council for the next three-year term within Category III.  Council membership elections will be held during this ICAO Assembly. Delegations from 192 countries and several world organizations are taking part in the event. The Assembly continues until Oct. 5. According to the ICAO Statute, ICAO Member States select only 36 countries to form the ICAO Council, which is considered the legislative body of the organization.

Doha Metro Red Line South Now Open for Public Weekends

Doha – QatarThe Ministry of Transport and Communications has announced that the Doha Metro Red Line South will now be open for the public during weekends as of Friday, Sept. 27.Only on this Friday Sept. 27, the public can use that line exceptionally from 14:00 to 03:00.After Friday Sept. 27, the public can use the line regularly from Saturday through Thursday from 06:00 to 23:00 and on Fridays from 14:00 to 23:00. Metrolink and Metroexpress services will be available during these timings.The line, which is under initial test operation, extends from Al Qassar to Al Wakra. The initial operation includes 13 out of 18 Red Line stations: Al Qassar, DECC, QIC West Bay, Corniche, Al Bidda (Interchange Station), Msheireb (Interchange Station), Al Doha Al Jadeda, Umm Ghawalina, Al Matar Al Qadeem, Oqba Ibn Nafie, Free Zone, Ras Bu Fontas and Al Wakra.

Ministry invites startup exhibitors to QITCOM 2019

Doha-QatarThe Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) has called for applications to exhibit at the Startup Hub zone during the fifth edition of the Qatar IT Conference and Exhibition (Qitcom 2019), providing entrepreneurs with an opportunity to showcase their business and attract partners and investors during the event on October 29.As part of the Qitcom Entrepreneurship Zone, the Startup Hub is an "inspiring opportunity for mature and successful entrepreneurs to present their creative ideas at Qatar’s largest digital event, Qitcom 2019", according to a press statement by the MoTC.This year’s vision is to have a selection of 100 local and international startups, who will receive exclusive access to potential investors and large enterprises in Qatar.Participants will comprise a "perfect mix" of innovators, startups, future unicorns and entrepreneurs, who will have free access to showcase their innovations at Qitcom 2019.Shortlisted participants will be eligible for speaking opportunities and awards.Applications for startups will be accepted till October 15.Selected startups will be able to showcase their products and solutions in the Startup Hub booths, building visibility and reach to local and regional market participants.The Startup Hub programme fosters entrepreneurs, investors and innovators to reach their full potential by exchanging knowledge, expanding their business ideas and networking with other entrepreneurs and investors, the statement notes.With this year’s theme ‘Safe Smart Cities’, Qitcom 2019 seeks to attract more than 300 entrepreneurs to take part in the activities at the Entrepreneurship Zone that includes the Startup Hub, CodeCamp, IdeaCamp, Make the Deal and Innovation Theatre.The Entrepreneurship Zone is a platform designed to bring together diverse digital sectors to exchange ideas and knowledge.It is an exclusive opportunity for startups, entrepreneurs and innovators to connect with relevant investors, businesses and enterprises, to develop digital solutions for the advancement of Qatar’s digital economy.Reem al-Mansoori, Assistant Undersecretary of Digital Society Development Sector at the MoTC, said: “After four successful editions, the fifth edition of Qitcom is even more exciting as we expect to bring together diverse entrepreneurs across various technology sectors.CEOs, CIOs, decision makers, technology specialists, researchers, innovators and visionaries will come together to collaborate on developing digital solutions for Qatar’s smart future.All of this is possible with the help of the Entrepreneurship Zone that is dedicated to facilitating entrepreneurs in exhibiting their ideas at the Startup Hub.“We are honoured to create more opportunities for innovative startups and witness some of the most technologically advanced showcases.In the past, Qitcom 2017 had incubated 25 startups through the Digital Incubation Centre and, this year, we hope to incubate even more startups at the Entrepreneurship Zone.”
